The Red Light District

In Vancouver, we don't really have a "red light" district per se, at least not like in Amsterdam, nor even like the Pigalle in Paris.  But we do have Granville Island and the Sandbar, legendary haunt and hunting ground of the infamous West Coast Cougar.  Throw in some sinfully delicious chocolate and throbbing crimson lipstick neon, and you have yourself one instant "red light" district.  At least in Vince's imagination.

I love the detail in this picture, and the neon lights reflected in the paving stones and asphalt.

Attended my first Night Photography class at Vancouver Photo Workshops and was inspired to spend a few hours on Granville Island.  Almost chose one of my Burrard Street Bridge shots, but I've already posted the Lion's Gate Bridge and feared a lack of imagination on my part.  The wind was howling, gusting up to twenty knots or so and it was even making my Gitzo carbon-fibre tripod quiver.

This is the Bridge shot that almost made it:

Shot on the Nikon D700 and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens.
