Night Moves

First night shooting with Rachelle Fox and class from the Vancouver Photo Workshops "Night Photography" course.  I decided to take my heaviest Gitzo carbon-fiber tripod this evening, as the wind had really been gusting the past few days to go along with the relentless rain.  Even my camera was wearing its raincoat this evening.

Was fascinated with the sulphur plant on the North Shore of Vancouver, thinking that I might be able to get something very complimentary -- colour-wheelwise, that is -- with the bright yellow of the sulphur under the lights and the blue of the sky, water and mountains in the distance.  Was mightily impressed with the sharpness of the new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens.

Shot with the Nikon D700, and of course, the new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens.  This was a ten second exposure at f/5.6 and 200 ISO.

Very tired, and now I'm off to bed...

  1. Nice shot, Vince...if you like sulphur plants...but I guess with shots like this it's all about the technical aspects of photography. Night in particular. Now, how do you make the foreground look like water instead of a wet sheet of steel?
